Maplewood is hosting the first PTA general meeting on October 4, 5:30-6 and the school's Latinx Heritage Celebration 6–7pm in the Maplewood Cafeteria.
During National Hispanic Heritage Month (September 15 to October 15) students at Maplewood learn about the contributions and important presence of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the United States. At Maplewood we have a diverse presence of Hispanic and Latinx cultures represented at our school, and this evening is for our community to gather together and celebrate through education and art.
Because it is difficult to represent well all countries that are of Latino Heritage, the planning committee chose to focus on Guatemala this year in order to provide a space for more comprehensive celebration. Next year, we will highlight another and we welcome others to join us in planning.
The event will include:
6–6:30 pm
* Dinner- A main entree dish provided by the PTA (please bring sides to share)
* Educational stations such as "Textile Selfies" where kids get to try on Guatemalan textiles
6:35–7 pm
* A peace maker performance and game for the kids
* Dance performances by 2nd and 3rd graders (Aaron- insert details)

Celebración de la Herencia Latinx
4 de Octubre de 6 a 7 pm en la Cafetería de Maplewood
Durante el Mes de la Herencia Hispana (15 de Septiembre al 15 de Octubre) los estudiantes de Maplewood aprenden sobre las contribuciones de los Hispanos y Latino Americanos y su importante presencia en los Estados Unidos. En Maplewood contamos con una presencia diversa de Hispanos y culturas Latinas representadas en nuestra escuela, y esta tarde es para que nuestra comunidad se reúna y celebre a través de la educación y el arte.
Ya que es difícil representar bien a todos los países de Herencia Latina, el comité de planeación escogió enfocarse en el país de Guatemala este año para poder dar espacio a una celebración más completa. El próximo año, nos enfocaremos en otro país y daremos la bienvenida a otras personas para que se nos unan en la planeación.
Este evento incluirá:
6–6:30 pm
*Cena- un plato de entrada principal será proveído por el PTA (por favor traiga guarniciones o acompañamientos para compartir con los demás).
*Habrá estaciones educacionales tales como “Textile Selfies” (Selfies con Textiles) en la que los niños se podrán probar textiles Guatemaltecos.
6:35–7 pm
* Una presentación de peace maker (hacedores de paz) y un juego para los niños
* Presentaciones de danza por parte de los grados 2do y 3ero.

The Mustang Stampede and Fall Fest will be combined this year into one Spook-tacular event! The Mustang Stampede (a 1 mile fun run) will be at Patterson Park at 2:00pm. The Stampede is the school’s biggest fundraiser and this year kids will run in costume! …Come to Maplewood this evening for a three part event hosted by the Cherrywood Neighborhood Association, a Candidate Forum: Austin Mayor & City Council! At 6 a panel of neighbors will discuss the $925M bond package, at 7 MPT Kathie Tovo and Danielle Skidmore, and at 8 Mayor Steve Adler and Laura Morrison.
There will be a Candidate Forum: Austin Mayor & City Council tomorrow, Wednesday 9/5 at Maplewood, and we invite our school community and neighbors to participate!
