After School Programs

Maplewood Elementary is host to a variety of after-school care programs.  The programs below are held both onsite at Maplewood and off-site. All of the programs are available throughout the entire school year.

EXTEND-A-CARE (M-F)

Extend-a-Care provides after school care for Pre-K through 6th graders Monday through Friday and offers occasional day camps on teacher in-service days.

Creative Action (M-F)

Creative Action provides after school care for Pre-K through 6th graders at Maplewood Monday through Friday afternoons until 6PM.

Creative Action After School engages students in fun, hands-on creative learning in filmmaking, music, puppetry, digital media, visual art, dance/movement, creative writing, and acting. Creativity classes are led by our expert Teaching Artists, all while expanding the development of social and emotional skills needed to become Creative Artists, Courageous Allies, Critical Thinkers, and Confident Leaders.

After School runs every day of the AISD calendar from the end of the school day until 6 p.m. Financial aid is available.

El programa de Después de la escuela de Creative Action, atrae estudiantes en un divertido aprendizaje práctico de cine, música, títeres,medios digitales,artes plásticas,baile/movimiento, escritura creativa y actuación.

Las clases creativas son dirigidas por nuestros expertos Maestros Artistas, todo mientras apoyan y expanden el desarrollo social y habilidades emocionales necesarias para convertirse en artistas creativos, amigos valientes, pensadores críticos y grandes líderes.

El programa Después de la escuela funciona todos los días de calendario de AISD, desde que se termina el horario de clases hasta las 6:00 pm.

Austin Parks and Recreation

Austin Parks and Recreation offer transportation directly from Maplewood to after school programs at two of their Recreation Centers: Hancock and Rosewood. Registration is required for the programs.

Austin Parks and Recreation centers also offer full-day camps and programs during many student holidays, including winter, spring, and summer break. Note that transportation is not provided for these special days.

MARIPOSAS Spanish Class (1 day/week)

Mariposas strives to inspire children to speak Spanish by making learning fun and easy. Their focus is to teach creatively through innovative lessons that include real life experiences, cultural activities, songs, games, movement, sign language, literature, art and beyond.

SNAPOLOGY (1 day/week)

Children are guided by instructors through an interactive lesson followed by a fun  build using LEGO® bricks. They offer Engineering, Robotics, Animation and many other STEAM based programs. Snapology classes are held onsite at Maplewood and begin immediately after school ends. Programs last from 1- 3 hours (depending on the school).

FILM KIDS (1 day/week)

FilmKids is perfect for 4th, 5th and 6th graders who want to take ideas from their imagination and see them come to life.  They will work with professionals to write stories, make props and costumes, act and make a movie.  They host a film festival at the end of year.   All kids will get a DVD of their work to take home.  Equipment and snacks provided!

For 2018-2019 calendar year, FilmKids is on Tuesdays 3:00 – 4:45 pm.  The program starts on September 18th  and runs till December 18th.  Location TBD (on campus) $340 – 13 sessions  To sign up, e-mail your childs’ information to austinfilmkids@hotmail.com or call 512-567-0778 and they will collect your registration and payment on the first day.
