Dear Maplewood Community,
Our school was recently recognized by Educational Results Partnership as a 2018 – 2019 Honor Roll School for our high achievement in student success. The Honor Roll program is part of a national effort to identify higher-performing schools and districts that are improving student outcomes. Maplewood Elementary is one of 855 public schools in Texas to be recognized. On behalf of the Maplewood school community, I want to congratulate you and your children!
The 2018 – 2019 Honor Roll utilizes public school student achievement data to identify successful schools and districts. Our school stands above others in the state because of our demonstrated ability to get students to grade-level achievement and beyond.
Schools that receive the Honor Roll distinction have demonstrated consistent high levels of student academic achievement, improvement in achievement levels over time and a reduction in achievement gaps among student populations.
Here a few important facts about the Honor Roll:
· It’s the only award given in collaboration with business leaders.
· It includes graduation and dropout rate data.
· It establishes a higher bar of performance than any other award.
· It is conducted by Educational Results Partnership, a nonprofit organization that maintains the nation’s largest database on student achievement.
We did not apply for this award. Our results led them to us! Because of our accomplishment, we will be featured on ERP’s Honor Roll website at www.edresults.org and a banner has been designed for us to hang proudly at our school.
We are thankful for the hard work of our students and teachers here at Maplewood, and the consistent support of our Maplewood families. This recognition is a testament to the sustained focus on academic results and commitment to student success that our school and parent community have shown over the years.
Again, congratulations, and let’s keep up the great work!
On a different note, the past few weeks have been filled with lots of meetings and high emotions around the AISD School Changes proposals. The faculty and staff at Maplewood have been feeling these tough emotions as well, and it has been amazing to have the support of all of our families and the community. We can truly feel how much you love and appreciate the work we do each day with your children. Your voices and sentiments have been articulate and inspirational as you have shared ideas, thoughts, feelings, and concerns in meetings and in letters with the AISD school board and central office administrators. You have been calm, reasonable, and caring for all students in our community and those in surrounding schools.
Our teachers are trying to provide students with a consistent message about “school changes.” We want our students to know that the adults are still talking about the possible proposals, and that no decisions have been made at this time. We want students to be able to continue to learn and grow without distractions. We are encouraging them to continue to show everyone what a fantastic school we have here at Maplewood. Thank you, families, for helping us to continue our work with your children.
As we participated in the International Walk-to-School Day on Wednesday, October 2, we were able to once again celebrate the wonderful community and support that makes Maplewood so special. Wasn’t it great to be able to WALK to our school?! We have so many special events coming up this fall. Let’s continue to set the bar for what a neighborhood school looks and feels like! Thanks, Maplewood family!!
