Maplewood: “Mayor’s Healthiest School”

by Vickie Jacobson, Maplewood Principal

It our pleasure to announce, for the third year in a row, Maplewood Elementary has been awarded the Mayor’s Healthy School Award. As an extension of the Mayor’s Health and Fitness Council (MHFC) Partnership Certification Program, the Mayor’s Healthiest School Awards highlight schools that have implemented healthy changes to create school environments that support the health and well-being of students. Schools that demonstrate practices above the state and federal standards are eligible to earn an award.

On September 13, our fantastic PE teacher, Becca Lambdin-Abraham and I will attend an award ceremony at City Hall. Additionally, we are proud to announce that our campus was one of the TOP 3 elementary schools, and will receive a $1000 grant to support school health and wellness initiatives. Maplewood was the ONLY AISD school to score in the top 3 at the elementary level. Congratulations to all of our staff, students, and parents for helping us earn this award for three consecutive years!

Don’t forget to mark you calendar for “Back to School Night” at Maplewood on Thursday, September 19. We will gather in the cafeteria to introduce our SUPER staff and then you will have time to visit your child’s classroom. Primary (PK-2nd grades) will be from 6:00-7:00pm, and Intermediate (3rd-5th grades) will be from 7:00-8:00pm. Come on out and learn more about your child’s teacher, grade, and learning opportunities for this school year.

See you at Maplewood!

-Vickie Jacobson, Maplewood Principal
