Parent Prom

Open to the public, this annual fundraiser and adults-only dance promises yet another year of quirky and memorable fun with the theme of ‘Dazed and Confused: Party at the Moontower’; event to raise money for counseling support, creative arts partnership, staff appreciation and more.

(AUSTIN, TEXAS – Jan. 16, 2020; source: Juice Consulting) – Maplewood Elementary, an Austin
ISD school known for its diverse student body and its motto, “Increase the Peace,” announces their
2020 Maplewood Parent Prom taking place Saturday, Feb. 8, 2020 at Blue Genie Art Bazaar from
7 – 11 p.m. The theme for this year’s Parent Prom is “Dazed and Confused: Party at the
Moontower.” The Recliners and DJ Girlfriend are set to perform, and the evening will feature an
epic silent auction and raffle. Attendees are encouraged to come in theme-styled prom attire as the
magic of “Dazed and Confused” fills the night. There will be a photobooth sponsored by Simplebooth
among other surprises. The Parent Prom is open to the public and free to attend, with a suggested
donation of $25. Business and individual sponsorships are still available. For more information, to
RSVP or to sponsor the event, see here.
“This is my last year heading up the event and Seniors Rule!” said Elizabeth McQueen, four year
Parent Prom Chair and PTA Board member. “Actually, we want this year to be a true celebration of
Austin. I’ve always seen this night as a way for the adult community at our school to let their hair
down and act like kids together for a night. I think a ‘Dazed and Confused’ theme will definitely
encourage people to act like kids.”

Sponsorships for the Parent Prom are available, which will help defray the cost of Parent Prom.
Sponsors of the event provide other Maplewood families, teachers and staff the opportunity to attend
the Prom, and Team Awkward sponsorships also help the PTA cover the yearly costs associated with
literacy support for the school and more.

“Our annual Parent Prom is an exciting and fun way for parents, staff, and community members to
come together and celebrate the uniqueness of Maplewood Elementary,” said Maplewood
Elementary Principal Vickie Jacobson. “It helps us to bond as a Maplewood family, and celebrate
the “village” we have created to help raise our children.”

Maplewood Elementary school is located in East Austin and teaches grades pre-K through sixth. The
school, opened in 1951, is known for its diverse student body and its motto, “Increase the Peace.”
